The Challenge
Parents kept reminding their kids to sit up straight, and nothing changed. Reminders don't build a habit, they just create another argument about screen time. Posture-correction apps existed, but none of them controlled how much a child could actually use their phone. Parental-control apps went the other way: they locked down screen time but had no way to see whether a kid's posture was actually improving while they used it.
The client needed one app that did both jobs at once.
The Solution
New York App Devs built PostureGuard as a single iOS app for the whole family, replacing an earlier two-app setup with one app that handles both the parent's controls and the child's posture tracking.
The app reads posture straight from AirPods motion sensors, no extra hardware needed. Poor posture triggers a three-stage warning, then automatically blocks the child's screen time until posture corrects itself.
Key Capabilities Built
The practical product capabilities built into PostureGuard.
one role-based app replaces separate parent and child apps, with a shared family account and sync code.
real-time posture monitoring using AirPods motion sensors, no extra hardware to buy or wear.
a three-stage warning system escalates to automatic Screen Time app blocking until posture corrects.
apps auto-unlock during parent-set hours and auto-relock at the end of the window, with a parent override.
posture monitoring keeps running while the app is minimized, within iOS's background limits.
a centralized dashboard keeps parent and child posture data, sessions, and settings in sync.
daily streak tracking and positive-reinforcement notifications keep kids engaged with the habit.
